The principal stage in wind-wave generation

The dynamics of wind-generated water waves in the principal stage Phillips theory (Phillips, J. Fluid Mech. , vol. 2, 1957, pp. 417–445) is investigated by a combined numerical and analytical approach. We perform number high-resolution direct simulation (DNS) turbulent wind over initially calm to capture multistage generation waves. Detailed analyses are conducted evaluate both physical space wavenumber space. Numerical evidence obtained for existence when surface elevation variance grows linearly with time. further propose random sweeping turbulence pressure–wave interaction model introducing hypothesis air pressure fluctuations theory, obtain an asymptotic solution mean square wave elevations This analysis captures temporal oscillations stage, which also confirmed our DNS results. spectrum analysed using time-dependent norm elucidate role resonance mechanism on generation.
